Director, screenwriter and film producer
Josep Maria Forn

(Barcelona, 1928) Since 1958, when he began his career in the film industry, he has worked continuously for more than fifty-seven years, combining his roles as a director, producer, and screenwriter, as well as other responsibilities within the industry.

In this regard, he held the position of Sub-Dirección General de Cinematografía y Vídeo del Departamento de Cultura de la Generalitat de Catalunya (1985); the first Director General de la primera Dirección General de Cinematografía, Vídeo y Televisión del Departamento de Cultura de la Generalitat de Catalunya (1987-89); and played a key role in the creation of the first association of producers in Spain (PAC, Productors Audiovisuals de Catalunya), which he chaired on several occasions and of which he is currently one of the honorary presidents.

With an extensive filmography as a director (15 feature films and 8 short films), screenwriter (18 feature films and 19 short films), and producer (more than 30 feature films and 62 short films), some of his notable works include: “Muerte al amanecer,” “La vida privada de fulano de tal,” “La piel quemada” (Silver Carabela Award at the Valladolid Film Festival; Circle of Fine Arts Medal for Best Screenplay and Best Male Performance; Silver Fotogramas for Best Male Performance), “Companys, procés a Catalunya” (Golden Camera at the Cartagena de Indias Film Festival; Certain Regard at the Cannes Film Festival; Best Male Performance at the Bangalore Film Festival), “Subjudice” (Awarded at the first edition of the Malaga Festival), “El coronel Macià” (First International Prize 2009 at the Argeles Festival; 7 nominations for the Barcelona Awards), or “El somni català” (about to be released in theaters).

In addition to the numerous awards he has received throughout his career, Josep Maria Forn has been honored with: the extraordinary Sant Jordi Award from RNE (1986) for the most significant contribution to Catalan cinema from 1976 to 1986; the Creu de Sant Jordi from the Generalitat de Catalunya (2001) for his outstanding and diversified work in the Catalan cinematographic and audiovisual field; the Extraordinary Memorimage Award (2006) for his professional career; and, more recently, the Honor Award from the Acadèmia del Cinema Català (2010) in recognition of his long, extensive, and fruitful career in the world of cinema.

As a director, he has shown a concern for the identity and other social aspects of our reality. Examples include the portrayal of Catalonia’s recent history in his latest film, “El somni català,” the theme of immigration during the 1960s in “La piel quemada,” the assassination of President Companys in “Companys, procés a Catalunya,” the chronicle of the first public act of post-Francoism in “El Míting de la llibertat,” or the relationships between the Catalan bourgeoisie, public bodies, and the political class in Madrid in the comedy “Ho sap el ministre?”

As a producer, he has been able to connect with audiences through successful works such as: “La ciutat cremada” by Antoni Ribas (First Prize at the Biarritz Festival and Montreal Festival Award); “Ocaña. Retrat intermitent” by Ventura Pons (a cult film that has participated in countless festivals and exhibitions around the world); “Serenata a la claror de la lluna” by Carles Jover and Josep Anton Salgot (First Prize at the Ibero-American Festival
